There will never be any use of physical or verbal abuse at the daycare. Instead the following developmentally appropriate guidance techniques will be used:
~Postive Reinforcement: Praise and encouragement will be given when a child is demonstrating acceptable behavior.
~Redirection: The child is directed to another activity and given opportunity to try again at another time.
~Time out: The child is separated from the group for a brief time period (appropriate to the child's age and the circumstance). The child will then be talked with about changing his/her behavior in the situation and encouraged to join with the rest of the group. This technique is only used when the child is demonstrating temper tantrum type behavior, or hurting self, others or equipment.
~Last Resource: If a child's behavior is continually upsetting or dangerous to the provider or other children, a conference will be called with parents. If the problem persists arrangements will have to be made for the parents to find another place for their child.
